John Carter
I’m a retired pathologist and one of those doctors who always wanted to be a musician, much like those musicians who always wanted to be doctors. For some time before I retired, I’d toyed with the idea of broadcasting on FMR and in March 2002 I conjured up enough courage to apply for a position as a presenter. Now, I love doing it – it’s addictive and always fun.
What else do I do in my retirement? I love cooking, but my friends laugh at me because I treat my kitchen as my laboratory and cook like a typical pathologist, i.e., obsessively accurate. I sometimes use laboratory equipment such as measuring cylinders and even pipettes instead of such inaccurate things as teaspoons, tablespoons and cups! However, my friends gobble up the food nevertheless, but complain that it has the artistic soul of a pathological cook.
I have a lovely computerised music studio in my house where I prepare the FMR shows and dabble, very unsuccessfully, in a little music composition. What else do I do? I eat, drink and remain as merry as possible, and sleep next to my cat Hatshepsut!
John presents “Classical Choice” on Friday mornings.
