Description

Local composer Grant McLachlan presents a course at the UCT Summer School that traverses 1 000 years of classical music. Designed for the music lover and the concert-goer, it highlights the extraordinary development of harmony and how it arrived at the musical language we love today. The first lecture-performance on Wednesday features choral ensemble VOX Cape Town and spans medieval plainchant, organum and the glorious flowering of harmony after 1500. The next two nights explore concert music and the ways in which harmony affects our emotions.
