Description

In 1888, eighty years after Britain legislated for the abolition of the oceanic slave trade in the British Empire, a British warship liberated a large consignment of Oromo child slaves in the Red Sea and took them to Aden in Yemen. A year later, a smaller cluster of liberated Oromo slave children joined the first group already in the care of a Free Church of Scotland mission at Sheikh Othman, an oasis north of Aden. Dr Shell has traced the Oromo children and tells of their fate.
