‘The Poet Speaks’ – so concludes the final piece of Schumann’s ‘Kinderszenen’ (Scenes from Childhood), a lyrical masterpiece which alludes to life through the eyes of a child, depicting everyday scenes infused with the childlike emotions of fear, innocence and joy. Chopin’s 24 Preludes opus 48, although not possessing the literary titles of Schumann’s set, are all miniatures of remarkable lyricism, poetry and pathos. South African born, educated in Salzburg and currently working in Melbourne, pianist Berta Brozgul presents this program of Romantic poetry in sound.
