MEDIA RELEASE FOR FINE MUSIC RADIO 101.3:  NEW TRANSMITTER 94.7 FOR HOUT BAY / LLANDUDNO

For 16 years FMR  has been heard locally only on the frequency 101.3 FM stereo. Locally yes, but also world-wide on the Internet through our website.

Granted a single transmitter in 1995 on the Tygerberg hills the station has tried since then to obtain 'gap-fillers' to take its unique blend of classical music and jazz into those areas screened by our marvelous mountains!  Station Manager Victoria Cawood is delighted that her efforts have now borne fruit. She says "of the complaints we receive, the most
stated - and the most vociferous - is 'why can't we get FMR where we live'.
Well, after many months of negotiations with ICASA, the Regulator, we were offered this little gem, and grabbed it".

Early risers and those travelling into the city can now ease into the day to the light and bright classical music of the Breakfast Show with Rodney Trudgeon, and work-from-homers, of which there are many in the Valleys will have a variety of classics and jazz music throughout the day - and all night!!  From 'Classic Choice' each weekday morning to classics for the more serious listener each evening;  to 'Lunchtime Jazz' and various Jazz selections every evening, FMR on 94.7 will bring a new era of relaxed, lo-talk, hi-quality radio to Hout Bay and Llandudno.

FMR 101.3 will retain 101.3 as its main frequency, with 94.7 as a supplement; listeners may have to install an FM aerial for best reception on a land-based set.

Fine Music Radio 101.3 celebrated its 15th birthday on 1 July 2010. This is a considerable achievement in the face of stiff media competition. Fine Music Radio is a section 21 not-for-gain company that receives no funding from government - national, provincial or local.

There are several thousand FMR association members who support the station by paying a modest fee. However we believe that there are some individuals and organisations who are able to and would like to give greater support. These additional funds would be used to build and improve our station. We have initiated therefore a special FMR benefactors programme.
