What can you expect to hear?
This year marks 100 years since the advent of the “war to end wars”, World War 1. For centuries, war has been an important stimulus for many composers, including Beethoven, Haydn, Shostakovich, Tippett and, more recently, John Adams and Karl Jenkins – while others such as Arthur Bliss, George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams actually spent time behind the lines.
