Description

Langebaanweg is a late Miocene-early Pleistocene fossil site that dates back to 5.2 million years ago. It has yielded one of the richest, best preserved mammal assemblages in the world with more than 230 taxa of plants, vertebrates and invertebrate, many of which have become a worldwide reference for palaeontological studies. The site contains archaic Miocene and Pliocene carnivores which includes at least 19 species of bears, seals, honey badgers, wolverines, otters, jackals, hyaenas, cats – including sabre-toothed felids – genets and mongooses. Dr. Alberto Valencian will discuss new findings
