Description
International opera singer and Swellendam native, William Berger, will be returning for two recitals entitled ‘Homecoming’ together with pianist, Alex Gabriel. The programme will feature a newly compiled and arranged songcycle, ‘Surinkies’ composed by Awie van Wyk, based on the children’s poems of M.E.R (well-known Swellendam writer).
To compliment the unfussed simplicity and humility of M.E.R.’s poetry and van Wyk’s composition, the rest of the recital programme will feature music that borrows from folksong and traditional musical idioms, such as B. Brittan, Ravel, E.Grieg & Mahler.
